GCBA Bee School

Gaston County Beekeepers Association (GCBA) 2018 Bee School:  This is an introductory course that is designed to help learn everything you need to know to get started in beekeeping. The course covers beekeeping history, bee anatomy and behavior, setting up and managing your hive, keeping your bees healthy, nectar sources and blooming times and honey production and marketing.

The tuition includes the following: classroom instruction, textbook, 2018 membership in Gaston County Bee Association (GCBA), 2018 North Carolina State Beekeeper Association (NCSBA) membership. In addition to classroom lectures, students will participate in a field day in April where they will get the opportunity to work with live bees and apply what they’ve learned to demonstrate the proper way to open a hive, use a smoker, inspect a hive for the different types of bees, brood and honey and pollen storage. There will also be additional optional workshops held addressing specific activities (e.g.,assembly of hive parts).

Course Fee:  $85.00 + $2.50 processing Fee (covers book and 1yr membership in GCBA & NCSBA)
